On December 10 and 11, 2009 we called together 90 children in Kenya and distributed to them food and our nutritional supplement. On January 2, 2010 I received the first report on how the children were faring. ”the children are responding very very well. On February 15, Pastor Jumba emailed: “Again the response of the children remains outstanding.” He also informed me over the phone that they were gaining needed weight.
On March 10, 2010, the children returned for CD4 testing to wrap up the study. The difference in their health was wonderful. Parents were saying, "Look at my child. Hold my child. This is the one that was so sick 3 months ago". Emotions ran high that day. Children who 3 months earlier had just moped around, now ran, laughed and played. All but a handful of children seemed not to be sick at all.
When the International CDC director for Kenya saw the weight gains, and the general condition of the children, he became quite excited. Nutrition really does matter in the battle against AIDS. Medications just are not as effective in a person who is malnourished.
Only 12 years old, Diana had full-blown AIDS. She was dying, in spite of taking Antiretroviral drugs for AIDS. In December of 2009, her CD4 count was 58 and she weighed 48 lbs.
After 3 months of our supplement, her CD4 count had increased to 78 and her weight was up to 62 lbs. However, she was still quite sick. We doubled the amount of our supplement she was receiving, and put her on a daily dose of a second supplement. Then we prayed.
By the grace of God, Diana responded positively to the new supplement protocol. She has continued to improve in health, and is looking quite healthy these days. Once again the Lord has answered prayer, and saved the life of a young lady with AIDS.
